Norra to begin operating three new Finnair routes
Our customer Finnair is expanding its European network next summer. In March and April we are honoured to support the launch of three new destinations: Alta, Umeå, and Florence.
The new Alta route, operated via Kittilä, will launch on Sunday, 29 March 2026. We will operate the service on behalf of Finnair five times a week with our ATR 72 fleet until the end of October.
Located at the head of the Altafjord near the Arctic Ocean, Alta is known for its UNESCO-listed rock carvings, which document human settlement in the area dating back up to 7,000 years.
Alta is also one of the best places in Europe to observe the Northern Lights. During the winter season, the city attracts visitors with Arctic experiences such as dog sledding and snowmobile safaris, while in summer the midnight sun, hiking trails and fishing opportunities offer a very different perspective on northern nature.
Fly to Umeå via Vaasa
On the same day, Sunday, 29 March 2026, Finnair will also bring Umeå back to its network after a break of several years. We will operate the route with our ATR 72 fleet.
The flights will be operated via Vaasa, helping to further strengthen connectivity between Finland and Sweden across the Kvarken region. During the summer season, there will be up to two flights per day.
Umeå is one of the most important cities in northern Sweden, particularly renowned as a university city where a vibrant cultural scene, a youthful atmosphere, and diverse outdoor opportunities blend. The city lies on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia, and its most notable attractions include Bildmuseet, a museum dedicated to international contemporary art.
Florence – a stunning historic city, offering unique experience even for pilots
Finnair will continue to invest in the Italian market, with flights on the Florence route commencing on Thursday, 2 April 2026. The service will operate until the end of the summer schedule in October.
Florence is one of Italy’s most famous and historically significant cities, serving as the administrative and cultural centre of Tuscany. Known as the birthplace of the Renaissance, its historic city centre has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. Landmarks such as the Florence Cathedral, Ponte Vecchio, and Palazzo Vecchio are recognised worldwide. Long-standing traditions coexist with modern city life, and the city’s vibrant cultural scene, events, and culinary and wine traditions make it an appealing destination for a wide range of travellers. From Florence, it is easy to explore Tuscany’s wine regions and historic towns, including Siena and Pisa.
Florence Airport is located approximately four kilometres from the city centre and is known for its short runway, which measures just 1,560 metres. Due to the runway length, all Finnair flights on this route will be operated by our Embraer 190 aircraft, which are best suited to these conditions.
